About Angie Lewin

After working in London as an illustrator, Angie Lewin studied horticulture and returned to printmaking. Inspired by both the cliff tops and saltmarshes of the North Norfolk coast and the Scottish Highlands, Angie depicts these contrasting environments and their native flora in wood engraving, linocut, silkscreen, lithograph and collage.

She collaborated with author Leslie Geddes-Brown on an anthology of garden writing, in which the author describes Angie’s vision: “She sees the beauty in all seasons and all manifestations of plants: the ordered pattern of the blooms, the thrusting energy of the emerging buds, the prolific seed heads and the varieties of shapes, colours and habits to be found in meadow and border.”

She now lives and works primarily in Scotland. As well as designing fabrics and stationery for St Jude’s, which she runs with her husband Simon, she has completed  commissions for Penguin, Faber, Conran, Octopus, Merrell and Picador, and has also designed fabrics for Liberty.

She has been honoured by elections into The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, The Society of Wood Engravers and The Art Workers Guild.

Deckchair Design

Angie donated a deckchair to Deckchair Dreams in 2013. She told us:

I lived in London for many years and enjoyed the opportunity to spend time in the city's parks. These vital green spaces allow city workers and visitors alike take a break from the concrete, stone and glass"

About her design, she told us:

I wanted to create a design that conveys the feeling of being amongst native grasses and wild flowers so that the sitter might feel transported beyond the green space of the park to the depths ofthe countryside. I interpret “Nature's Grand Designs” in my work by close observation, often exploring the structure of an insignificant weed can be asinspiring as an exotic specimen.
