The Shire Horses of Richmond Park

The Shire Horses were introduced into Richmond Park in 1993 as a sustainable way to manage the parkland. Spring and summer duties included road verge cutting, rolling bracken to preserve grassland and in winter, they help with timber extraction from the woods.

With funds raised through our wildlife adoptions, we have supported the Shire horse team in Richmond Park so they can appear at community events such as local fairs, schools, open days and help raise awareness of these magnificent animals and the valuable work they do.
