Tango for the trees!
Sunshine, fresh air, Latin and Argentinean beats, sultry steps and trees were all brought together this summer at Dance Al Fresco, a series of dance and fundraising events for everyone in The Regent’s Park. All organised by Kele Baker, who has choreographed for the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Last Sunday was the last one of this summer, so we joined Kele for her top tango tips and to admire the fiery feet of the experienced tango dancers, but most of all to thank her for her amazing support of the trees in the Royal Parks.
We’re arrived at 1pm for the beginners’ class, excited but nervous. Would we have two-left feet? Would we be able to dance at all?
But Kele made everyone feel relaxed with her humour, coupled with her expert step-by-step coaching; we were soon strutting across the dance floor. Well, we may have been counting the steps quietly under our breath and the occasional foot was stood on, but the feeling of dancing in such beautiful surroundings was exhilarating and enough to remind us why people love Dance Al Fresco so much.
As always, Kele's enthusiasm and passion shone through - both for dancing and The Regent’s Park. Her dedication over the years has not only raised thousands of pounds for trees, she has inspired many first timers to take up dancing and has encouraged people to come and enjoy the Park in new ways.
