Care for the Pelicans in  St James's Park

Malcolm, the Wildlife Officer, feeds the older resident pelicans in the ParkPelicans have been a star attraction of St James’s Park since 1664. The Governor of Texas and the Governor of Louisiana are amongst international leaders who have
made gifts of Pelicans over the past century to conserve the colony.

This year, three new Great White Pelicans arrived from Prague Zoo to join the three older birds on the lake. Our annual programme of care includes the provision of 2,000kg of mackerel, sardines and herring, veterinary support and education activities.

To help care for the pelicans and other wildlife in the Parks:

  • From £25: Adopt Wildlife in the Parks
  • From £2,500: Sponsor a Wildlife Discovery Day for the school of your choice by becoming an American Friend
  • From £25,000 per annum: Become our Pelican Partner and become an American Friend.

Celebrating the Thimble Shelters

Thimble Shelter in Kensington GardensDuring the First World War, Miss Elizabeth Hope-Clarke collected vast numbers of silver thimbles to raise funds for ambulances and provide rescue services for the sick and wounded. Her efforts and those of the veterans were later honoured with two ‘Silver Thimble Shelters’ opposite Kensington Palace.

These little shelters are now in need of repair. With your help we’d like to restore them to good health, to give shelter to visitors in the Park, and ensure that the story
they tell of heroism, care and compassion lives on for years to come.

To get involved you can:

  • From £500: Sponsor a new Heritage Walk
  • From £25,000: Restore a Silver Thimble Shelter and become an American Friend.

Peter Pan Programme

Peter Pan Statue in Kensington Gardens (c) Anne Marie BriscombeIn J.M. Barrie’s original book, Peter Pan enters London flying along the Serpentine. Barrie loved Kensington Gardens and demonstrated his affection with several gifts including the beautiful Peter Pan statue. Often called the most beautiful of all the statues in London, Peter is surrounded by the little fairies and animals of the garden who shared his adventures.

We are looking for a Peter Pan Partner to protect this treasured feature and support new landscaping to create a magical nature trail. Your donation will also enable a Peter Pan Programme of walks, talks and Nature Discovery sessions at the Isis Education Centre in Hyde Park.
