About the artist:

Sam Hobson is a successful published photographer, regularly contributing to BBC Wildlife Magazine and being featured in the Guardian, Independent, Telegraph, Metro, Express, Daily Mail and Evening Standard. His work has been awarded in numerous major competitions including the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, the British Wildlife Photography Awards and the Nature's Images Awards.

'I grew up in London, which might not seem the best place to experience the natural world, but with a back garden full of foxes, hedgehogs and stag beetles I was off to a better start than most urbanite kids in the 80s. It taught me at an early age that wildlife is all around us, and that staying curious and observant leads to amazing wildlife experiences, be it in the city, the country, or further afield. Knowing how to spot animals and understand their behaviour has been the cornerstone in my career as a wildlife photographer and film-maker.

My connection to the natural world has enriched my life, and I am always keen to encourage others to do the same. To this end, I have organised an urban bird migration study group, given talks and interviews about my work and published articles about my travels, adventures and wildlife that people can experience right here in the UK. I hope that through my work I can inspire others to look around them and appreciate the wild wonders of our planet, from the majestic megafauna to those minute backyard beetles.'
