Make this year your healthiest year yet by following these tips and tricks from Mercedes Ngoh Sieff, co-founder of the award winning health retreat Yeotown, to kickstart a healthier, happier, more energised you.

1. Rest your mind

Our minds are working hard all the time so it's really important that you give it that much needed break! Try breathing in for 4, hold your breath for 6, exhale for 4. And repeat as necessary. This will calm the mind and immediately rids it of the stress of the moment.

2. Exercise at home

With a host of online exercise classes, it's now easier than ever to get healthy in the comfort of your own home, at any time, day or night for as long or as little as you want. Exercise increases mental clarity, boosts energy, promotes weight loss, reduces stress, tones muscles, helps stabilise blood sugar levels and most importantly detoxifies the body and mind of accumulated toxins.

Yeotown Life is a useful resource with a host of MindBody videos including healthy cooking tutorials, yoga classes, fitness sessions and more.  You can check it out here.

3. Digital Detox

Have a digital detox day. No emails, texts, tablets or social media posting! Not only very liberating, it makes us realise how addictive our gadgets and online lives have become.

4. Have a juice day

Take a day off heavy and fatty foods and give your digestive system a break. Let your meals consist solely of fresh, preferably cold pressed juices (a decent juicer or even a blender will do the trick).  Below is a recipe for a firm Yeotown favourite:

'Yeotini' recipe (Serves 2)
1 Handful of Leafy Spinach, 1 Handful of Kale, 1 Cucumber, Small bunch of Parsley, ½ a head of Celery, ½ Lemon, ½ Lime, 1 Apple, dash of cinnamon (optional)
Juice or blend all ingredients until well combined.

5. Attitude of gratitude

Take a moment to think back to the past 24 hours and write down all of the positive things that happened to you no matter how small. This encourages us to look for the good in the world, our lives and the people around us and can really shift a mood from negative to positive in just a few minutes!

Kickstart your year of health and happiness by joining us at our yoga and raw food supper club on Monday 30 March for a celebration of springtime, yoga and healthy food.
